“Halal” means “permissible,” and in Islam it is the opposite of “haram.” The term is most commonly used in reference to food that is deemed permissible to eat. Animal products, excluding pork, are deemed ‘halal’ if they are ritualistically slaughtered in accordance with Islamic principles.
