The call to prayer, or to use the Arabic term – ‘adhan,’ is called from the highest point of a mosque, known as the ‘minaret.’ These days the call to prayer is usually sounded via a microphone to a speaker system on the minaret. The call to prayer is issued five times each day: dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and night.
Shi’a and Sunni Muslims have different calls to prayer, with the most obvious difference being that the Shi’a call to prayer is longer as it includes a reference to Imam Ali and it tells the people to come to the best of deeds (haya ala khayr al ‘amal)
