The Centre for Islamic Shi'a Studies is proud to announce the publication of the first paper in our research paper series. This paper consists of a study of the life, work and political activities of the renowned ūṣūlī ālim of the early twentieth century, Ayatollah Sayyid Muḥammad Kāẓim al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī al-Yazdī. His intellectual genealogy, juridical heritage and reluctance to become active in both Iranian and Iraqi politics are all themes covered which makes a great reading for academics and those who just have an interested in Shi'a Islam in the early twentieth century. We hope this is the first of many research papers on the history of Shi'a Islam and Twelver Shi'a scholars.
