On Friday 1st June 2012 the Centre for Islamic Shi'a Studies held a launch event for its online encyclopedia on Shi'a Islam; Shiapedia. The event was held at the new CISS premises, the Imam al-Jawad Centre in Willesden, London. CISS researcher Abd Al-Rauf Shokoya hosted the program and gave a slideshow presentation explaining the history of Shiapedia’s development and the functionality of the new site. The event included a talk from Prof Charles Tripp (SOAS) a member of the CISS Advisory Board among others on the importance of new media for academic research and the role of projects such as CISS to contributing to the progress of research in the Islamic Studies field generally and Shi’a Islam in particular. Sayed Fadhil Bahrululoom, Secretary-General of Alsalam Foundation and CISS, spoke on the importance of reviving the traditional texts and bringing them to a new audience, emphasising that the work of CISS is to publish work based on authentic source of Shi’a Islam which need to be highlighted further in the modern Islamic Studies fields. The event was wrapped up with some poetry commemorating the birth anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) recited by Nouri Sardar.
