We invite our friends and community members to join us for the re-launch of our E-journal, Shia Studies. We are very pleased to announce the launch of Shia Studies, an online publication on Shi’a Islam that we have been working on for the past few months. The project was devised to cover a wide range of subjects and to be accessible for non-Muslims, intermediate level readers and more familiar researchers. The Director of the CISS, Sayyid Fadhil Bahrululoom, and the Journal Editor, Professor Oliver Scharbrodt will talk about the vision and expectation from the journal.
Professor Scharbrodt studied Comparative Religion, Islamic Studies and Philosophy at the University of Bonn in Germany and completed his graduate studies and research in London, obtaining a MA and PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies. After teaching in London, the US and Ireland, he joined the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Chester in September 2014. He is the principal investigator of a research project on Shia communities in Britain and their links to the Middle East, funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation.
Sayyid Fadhil Bahrululoom is an Islamic Shi'a scholar who hails from a prominent Iraqi religious and political family. Apart from his philanthropic work, Sayyid Bahrululoom is also the founding Director of the Centre for Islamic Shi’a Studies, an academic research centre on Shi’a Islam and is a regular participant in international conferences and a founding trustee of several Muslim organizations including The Sayyid Bahrululoom Centre for The Revival of Heritage.
